India is rapidly advancing towards the path of decarbonisation, especially of its public transport system in order to achieve its target of attaining Net Zero Emissions by 2070. The year 2024 witnessed some of the most extreme climatic conditions across the country. This calls for urgent need to judiciously strategise approaches for improved and more sustainable techniques of managing electric buses.
India has been in the forefront in adopting initiatives for faster adoption of green mobility solutions in the country. The recently launched initiatives such as PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism Scheme, PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, and the Bharat Urban Megabus Mission reflect upon India’s commitment towards enhancing deployment of electric vehicles, especially electric buses across the country.
However, managing electric buses involve creation, maintenance and sustenance of an entire ecosystem. To help in undertaking this mammoth task, UITP India has been continuously supporting the Indian government bodies both at the national and at the city level through its research-based projects, specifically designed for better adoption of electric buses in India.
UITP India’s ongoing project on ‘Advancing Electric Buses in India’ is focussed on providing assistance at the national level for improving the electric bus supply ecosystem along with providing technical assistance to three cities in India. The technical assistance to the cities aim to streamline the city’s deployment of electric buses in a sustainable way.
Under the project, UITP India has also been also conducting capacity building training programmes for State Transport Undertakings (STUs) and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) managing electric buses across India. The last capacity building training programme on the ‘Deployment and Infrastructure Management for Electric Buses’ was conducted on 27-28 June 2024 in Pune.
In continuation, the next capacity building training programme under ‘Advancing Electric Buses in India’ Project will be hosted on 6-7 March 2025 in Bengaluru, India. The training will involve active engagement with government bus authorities, operators, global transport professionals, and other key stakeholders to enable accelerated deployment of electric buses in India
The 2-day training programme is targeted towards government public bus operators of India such as State Transport Undertakings (STUs), Municipal Transport Departments, Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and other organisations involved in growth story of electric buses in India.
UITP Training Programmes and all related processes are certified for ISO29990:2010 – the standard for learning services for non-formal education and training.
Our skillful and diverse trainers are international experts, domestic experts, and professionals from public transport operators, authorities, OEMs, and consultants with extensive experience and knowledge in the domain of electric bus and green mobility.
