1 July 2024 marks the start of the ‘countdown’ towards the implementation of Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) policies and commitments across Australian state jurisdictions and to the implementation of similar public transport bus decarbonisation policy commitments in New Zealand. In both countries, there will be no more new diesel bus procurements for urban services from 1 July 2025. This means that all Public Transport Authorities and Public Transport Operators region-wide, must develop ZEB transition plans and procure ZEB assets / services to successfully implement those plans – which may require changes to the way bus networks, bus services and bus infrastructure are designed and operated.
In this context, the UITP Academy has developed the ‘Achieving Zero Emissions for Bus Fleets in ANZ Training Programme: The Real-World Ins and Outs of Planning, Deployment, Operations & Maintenance’, offering a comprehensive assessment of decarbonised solutions for public bus networks – from the setting of an effective strategy for energy transition that meets government policy commitments, to energy supply, the choice of technology, procurement, implementation and operation of the new system, the actual benefits attained through transitioning to a zero-emissions fleet and the new opportunities such transition creates.
The course principally addresses electric bus fleet conversion but it also covers hydrogen fuel cells as an energy solution and why it may be appropriate for certain public transport applications in the ANZ region.
UITP Training Courses and all related processes are certified for ISO29990:2010 – the standard for learning services for non-formal education and training.
