Late 2021, UITP and the International Association of Fire and Rescue Services (CTIF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to raise public awareness and encourage the implementation of safety standards.
In 2019, UITP was involved in the development of the ISO17840 standard, an initiative of CTIF to create an international standard to label buses and give information to first responders. The objective of the standard is to improve intervention of first responders in case of bus/coach fire or accident, notably in the advent of new energy buses. This paper promotes the use of the standard by public transport operators and authorities when procuring new vehicles.
