Sustainability and circularity

This is the 4th update of the UITP Tender Structure Document, intended to streamline and ease the tender process of vehicles for bus operators, authorities, and manufacturers.

This update aims to support the increasing concern and will of the bus sector in addressing the sustainability, circularity, and social responsibility component of their fleet from a cradle-to-grave perspective.

Given the very early stage of considering environmental issues in the wider sense in the public transport sector, this document aims to set the foundations for further work and development on the topic, inspired by the challenges and successes of the frontrunners in the field.

The report also includes the Annex IV, which is a UITP-approved relative comparison tool, that enables bus operators and authorities to precisely evaluate and compare fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and regulated pollutants across 15 different bus propulsion energies. This document was last updated in early 2024, incorporating updated values.
