Today, on World Car Free Day, UITP launches its newest campaign: Mobility for Life. From now until December, we show the impact public transport can have on each of us, especially as the world opens up again after the COVID-19 pandemic.
As we go back to school, to work, to sports clubs, and cafés, public transport is ready for us. Ready to link our society together, ready to innovate as mobility evolves, ready to foster our relationships, and ready to enhance the cities we live in.
But we need to keep investing, developing and innovating. If we continue to nurture public transport, it will draw people into cities and create better, more inclusive and accessible cities. Only with our joint commitment can public transport and its workers, continue to bring cities to life.
Mobility for Life puts public transport at the centre of any urban mobility system. It shows policy makers that an investment in this is an investment in people. I hope it makes those working in public transport proud of their vital contribution to society, while also showing travelers that their mobility choices help create a better world for everyone.
Mobility for Life is built on four pillars, which correspond to UITP’s wider integrated global work plan. After introducing the key messages of Mobility for Life, from 4 October we will focus each theme for two weeks:
Each pillar will welcome thought leaders and decision makers to share their views on the theme and the future of urban mobility.

Mobility For Life launches on World Car Free Day. Every year on or around 22 September, cities across the globe encourage motorists to give up their cars for a day. The event highlights the numerous benefits of going car-free to citizens. From reduced air pollution to the promotion of walking and cycling in a safer environment.
