The coronavirus pandemic has shown all of us how we must take the time to make sure everything is done in the best possible way.
As we look towards the times ahead, it’s important for UITP to always take the necessary steps to bring the public transport sector together.
With this thinking in mind, we’ve made the joint decision with our local event host The Department of Transport Victoria to move the next edition of the UITP Global Public Transport Summit from 6-9 June 2021 to 14-17 December 2021 at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre.
With the support of our members, exhibitors, delegates and sponsors, we know that making the move to December gives us the time to build an ever better edition of the world’s biggest and best event dedicated to urban mobility.
During the past six months, UITP has worked hard to keep the sense of community strong in our sector, allowing us all the ongoing opportunity to advocate for public transport at every turn alongside our international membership.
While facing the impacts of a global pandemic, we’ve made sure that the necessary decisions have been made to put the comfort, health and safety of everyone involved as our number one priority and ensure that our Global Summit remains the defining event in the sector.
We are also putting a pause on our Call for Abstracts, so if you are interested in becoming a speaker at #UITP2021, then your time to become involved will re-open a little further down the line, and be considered alongside those who have already submitted their ideas.
With the move to December, the Summit lands in the middle of Melbourne’s summer, giving everyone involved the chance to enjoy the full Australian experience!
Hosted every two years, the next edition will be held under the theme “Mobility for Life” and will remain at the original venue, the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre.
“After the incredible success of the 2019 UITP Summit in Stockholm, I know, like me, many of you were fully charged for the next edition in Melbourne. Keeping you at the centre of our discussions, we reached the conclusion shared to ensure every one of you can safely join us at the Summit for a week of profound learning and networking, with the rest of our community. In the past 135 years, our Summit has earned the deserving reputation of THE defining event in public transport and now, we have a few extra months to build an even stronger programme to surpass every high expectation you have come to anticipate from UITP…”
The UITP Global Public Transport Summit is the largest event of its kind dedicated to urban mobility.
It brings together the brightest and best-known names to debate and implement the next steps for our cities. This won’t change.
Public transport is a vital service and maintaining the movement of people around our cities is essential.
We are determined to make sure that the future of public transport thrives and builds back better than ever before. Better mobility can be here to stay.
“It is now more important than ever that we come together as a global industry to work on the future of mobility, and the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in December 2021 in Melbourne will be the perfect opportunity for this.”
We take this opportunity to thank all of our event exhibitors, partners and sponsors for their continued support to make the next edition the success the industry has come to know it as.
We will continue to monitor the situation locally and internationally and address all necessary developments moving forward.
Our thanks goes to all of the local players in Melbourne for their ongoing support, including the Melbourne Convention Bureau, who have been a great supporter of the changes to our timetable.
In the coming weeks and months we will be communicating on the ongoing impact on our calendar of large events.
We thank you all for your ongoing support and understanding…
“…So hold on just a little longer, and we will meet soon at another UITP Summit to remember!”
