As a global non-governmental association, UITP has always avoided driving policy based on politics.
However we are currently living through unprecedented times, and the ongoing situation in Ukraine is an exceptional case.
The UITP Executive Board has met for an extraordinary meeting last week to discuss the situation and has reached a decision on how the association should respond.
The UITP Executive Board has decided, in compliance with our own bylaws, to temporarily suspend the involvement of all Russian and Belarusian members in UITP activities until further notice. This decision stands with immediate effect.
This means that any current association members from Russia will for the time being no longer be able to participate in UITP committees, platforms and working bodies or benefit from the association’s services.
Also as a consequence of this, representatives from Russian members who sit on UITP Boards will have to step down from their current positions during this period.
The UITP Executive Board will closely monitor the ongoing situation and adapt its decisions accordingly.
Our colleagues working in the UITP Eurasia office will suspend the support provided to members in Russia and continue to serve other members in the region, as well as the global missions of our association.
Our thoughts go out to everyone in Ukraine impacted by the situation, especially our colleagues and partners working in the public transport sector.
We hope that the conflict will soon come to a peaceful end.
