We extend our warmest thanks and heartfelt gratitude to all esteemed members for their unwavering support and active participation in the 22nd UITP Asia-Pacific Annual Meeting, locally hosted by MTR Corporation, held from 1-3 November 2023 in Hong Kong.
This remarkable event drew over 30 distinguished speakers and welcomed over 300 international delegates, hailing from 16 different countries and territories. Among these attendees were prominent figures in the public transport sector, representing a diverse array of stakeholders, including government authorities, operators, service providers, and other industry professionals. Their unwavering commitment to a shared mission of ‘Transforming Asia’s Smart Public Transport’ was truly inspiring.
In conjunction with APAM, several parallel events were orchestrated, including the 46th UITP Asia-Pacific Executive Committee (APC) meeting, the 21st Asia-Pacific Urban Rail Platform (APURP) meeting, and an enriching workshop dedicated to the theme of ‘Optimizing UITP Member Service Excellence and Empowering Young and Future Leaders in Public Transport.’ This workshop drew active participation from more than 30 individuals representing 10 countries and territories, who collectively shared their insights on how to nurture and promote the next generation leaders in the public transport sector.
Day 1
A noteworthy highlight of the first day included an official dinner where tokens of appreciation were presented to our platinum sponsor CRRC, gold sponsor TCT, silver sponsors – JCDecaux Transport and Arthur D. Little and our partners Hong Kong Tourism Board and Octopus. A welcome ceremony was also held for new UITP members— Ministry of Transport Sarawak, ComfortDelGro Corporation for Singapore, UK & Australia, Tower Transit Group Singapore and YTL Construction, Malaysia.
Additionally, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed with Prasarana Malaysia Berhad on training collaboration. An appreciation ceremony was also held to recognize the valuable contributions of UITP training partners, namely Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore and Shenzhen Bus Group (SZBG).
Day 2
The second day featured a packed agenda beginning with a keynote speech by Mr Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics of Hong Kong. The day continued with five engaging panel sessions and lively discussions, focusing on innovative solutions, new technologies for smarter mobility, and parallel sessions on pertinent topics related to bus and rail transportation.
Day 3
The concluding third day included enriching technical visits to prominent locations, such as the MTR Tsing Yi Operations Control Centre, Hong Kong West Kowloon and Admiralty stations, the Citybus Zero Emission Double Deck Bus depot, and a visit to the tram depot at Whitty Street to witness the transformation of 119-year-old tramway into a modern tramway system. These visits attracted over 80 UITP member participants, providing valuable insights into technological advancements and transformational projects.
