with the latest in public transport R&I

As we are rapidly approaching the UITP Global Public Transport Summit, you’ve probably had a glance at the extensive programme… From 4 to 7 June, our plenary and parallel sessions, Innovation Guided Tours, and social events adorn the agenda, with the whole world of public transport experiencing what’s next for sustainable mobility.

But of course your invitation goes beyond: in our exhibition halls, the focus will be on the solutions and innovations that shape up our sector, including many of UITP’s research projects. With engagement in over 60 EU and third-party projects in the last 10 years, UITP is recognised worldwide as a leader in innovation for the public transport sector, playing a key role in improving quality of life around the world.

At the UITP Summit, some of the most groundbreaking projects will take to the stage. From UITP’s major flagship projects UPPER and SHOW to more intimate workshops on safety and security: there will be plenty to discover on ticketing, automation, MaaS, clean bus tech, and much more.

Clean bus is here to stay

One of the public transport fundamentals that has been adorning the UITP Global Summit agenda for a long time is the electrification of urban mobility, in particular of buses. Also in Barcelona, visitors can indulge in the latest around clean bus.

eBRT2030: In Barcelona, UITP’s latest flagship project organises various activities: the session ‘Electric & innovative BRT for green cities’on 5 June will dive deeper into the project scope, while the workshop ‘Paving the road towards the EBRT systems of the future’ on the same day brings together operators, policy makers and industry experts to explore the future of eBRT systems.

Clean Bus Europe Platform: What kicked off at the UITP Summit in Stockholm in 2019, will conclude in the same fashion. On 6 and 7 June, the Clean Bus Europe Platform Final Eventwill showcase how it has facilitated a true momentum for clean bus deployment across Europe. On 6 June, there is also the session ‘Enhancing cooperation to support clean bus deployment worldwide’ with the JIVE project.

SOLUTIONSplus: The session Transformative living labs in urban electric mobility’ (7 June) will feature key learnings from project demos and invite participants to get involved in the global exchange on electric mobility.

Putting the passenger at centre stage

R&I in public transport is all about keeping the focus on the passenger and their journey. The below initiatives will present how we can make public transport as attractive as possible through MaaS and ticketing solutions, and data-sharing.

IP4MaaS: What has the IP4MaaS project achieved since its launch in December 2020? Find out at its Final Event on 6 June. Little sneak peek: expect valuable insights on multimodal services integration and developments in passenger experience.

STA – Nationwide integrated ticketing schemes: What do ticketing schemes mean from technology, transport economics and customer experience aspects? On 7 June, join the panel session by the Smart Ticketing Alliance to explore the implications of nationwide ticketing for seamless travelling.

Advancing seamless mobility in Europe: This panel session by the DATA4PT project (7 June) will see a discussion on the implementation challenges and added value of using EU data standards by mobility providers.

Safety and security as top priorities

Safety and security are a top priority for our sector, and also within our projects we work tirelessly on ensuring safe travel environment: a continual process that should never been taken lightly.

Cybersecurity: In this Innovation in the Spotlight session on 5 June, the UITP Cybersecurity Committee presents the most comprehensive guideline to public transport operators and authorities on cybersecurity requirements in tendering.

Improving security with CCTV: new tools and challenges: This lunch session on 6 June is co-run by the EU-funded project PRECINCT and will focus on the role of public transport in critical infrastructure security.
