Setting off for the Digital World Tour in 2021

In 2020 we have taken you on a digital world tour with a series of a of online and hybrid events taking place across the globe. This way, we could all continue to connect, discuss, and plan for the future, despite the challenging and unprecedented circumstances making it difficult to travel and meet in person.

The tour continues this year, with the Turkey National Conference between 26 and 28 May, followed by he APTA-UITP Rail Conference between 8 and 9 June, the India Bus Seminar 2021 from 15 until 18 June and the Latin America Week between 22 and 23 June. The campaign will be concluded in 2022 with IT-Trans, from 8 until 10 March.

A Recap of 2020

The Digital World Tour is meant to help keep the public transport sector connected and promote sharing, knowledge, and innovation. Last year, we organised a number of events as a part of this digital experience, including: the Indian Rail Seminar, the UITP Latin America Week, the Asia-Pacific Conference, the International Rail Forum for North America (IRFNA), IT-TRANS, and the Taxi and Ride-Hailing Conference. During these conferences and seminars, we gathered specialists and audiences from all around the world to discuss matters such as the impacts of COVID-19 on the public transport sector, the future of urban mobility, green mobility, artificial intelligence in public transport, and many more.

The Digital World Tour 2021

The first Digital World Tour event of 2021, the UITP Turkey National Conference on 26 May, until 28 May. This conference will be a sector-wide online event during which authorities, operators, policy makers, scientific institutes, and the industry as well as service providers can discuss how to turn the hard-won lessons of the pandemic into a healthier and better future for all. Topics brought up during the Turkey National Conference will include clean and energy efficient vehicles in sustainable urban mobility, urban mobility after the COVID-19 pandemic and many more.

The second stop of the Digital World Tour in 2021 will be the APTA-UITP Rail Conference will be taking place between 8 and 9 June. The two-day virtual conference will feature high-energy sessions on technology, operations, safety & security, planning, finance, capital projects, workforce development, diversity and inclusion, and more. The sessions will explore urban, commuter, high-speed, and intercity rail modes.

Following the APTA-UITP Rail Conference, the India Bus Seminar will be organised between 15 and 18 June as another event in the Digital World Tour series. This will be the 5th edition of the annual bus event. The seminar will encompass national and international speakers who will share their knowledge and experiences on themes such as green urban mobility, digitalisation and AI in bus operations, smart payments in bus systems, governance and financing and electric bus & trolley bus systems. The previous edition of the India Bus Seminar in 2020 got worldwide recognition with participation from more than 130 companies, 398 registrations from 41 countries with 44% registrations from outside India. All the panels included 40% of female speakers.

The UITP Latin America Week will be the next stop of the Digital World Tour on 22 and 23 June 2021. The digital event will bring a broad reflection on public policies, as well as necessary actions in terms of new technologies, planning and operation strategies in order for the mobility sector in Latin America to advance and improve the life in cities. Sessions during the Latin America Week will be organised on topics such as redefining public transport, institutional strengthening, future challenges for the sector, and others.

Finally, the UITP Digital World Tour will be concluded in March 2022 with IT-TRANS, another edition of the world’s leading Conference and Exhibition on intelligent urban transport systems.
