Saying hello to Hamburg: The UITP Summit hosts its first local launch in Germany

What does it mean to host the world’s largest event focused on advancing urban mobility?

And what does the road towards that special week next June look like when engaging with local partners and stakeholders?

On Tues 15 October, UITP and the Hamburg 2025 team, Hamburger Hochbahn, MOIA, new mobility solutions, and the city’s Messe and Congress welcomed guests for a very special event to present the Summit in the German city.

It’s important to meet and interact with the local and national players who will play a key role as major stakeholders and supporters of Hamburg’s success as a Summit host city.

With politicians, CEOs, national press and industry leaders gathering, the agenda was set to shine a spotlight on the Summit in Hamburg with a mobility transition tour, Summit spotlight exchange, panel discussion and the Hamburg Hackathon.

Collaboration is key to the Summit’s future success, and this will be our focus all the way to when Hamburg becomes the world’s public transport capital next year (15-18 June 2025).

So what were the key takeaways from our first local Summit launch in Germany?

Before having the opportunity to network, the audience enjoyed a programme of speeches, presentations, promotional videos, and a high-profile panel discussion.

Our guests were offered the brilliant opportunity to see the mobility developments and sights of Hamburg with our Transition Tour – the city is developing at an impressive pace and via bus, the tour presented a future set for Hamburg and its residents.

As the day’s proceedings began, our Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani participated in a high-level press conference with Dr Anjes Tjarks, Minister, Hamburg Authority for Traffic and Mobility Transition and Daniela Kluckert, Parliamentary State Secretary (BMDV), where they exchanged with local and national media on the Summit’s important benefits to Hamburg. As the local launch highlighted the importance of hosting the Summit, UITP Senior Director of Events and Academy Services Lindsey Mancini, and Tobias Brzoskowski, Director of New Mobility Solutions spoke about the benefits to Hamburg and the public transport sector.

This was followed by our panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges in the integration of new digital mobility services into the urban transport system with Minister Tjarks, Robert Henrich, Chairman of the Board of Hamburger Hochbahn, Sascha Meyer, CEO of MOIA and Jana Neumann, COO of Wunder Mobility.

After hearing from the major players involved in the Hamburg Summit, our audience was delighted with three elevator pitches from the finalists of the Hamburg Hackathon – young people inspired to advance mobility in their city with thoughtful, intelligent creations to make public transport more accessible and innovative!
