With the passing of our Director of Rail Laurent Dauby in 2019, we knew that in time it would be important to honour the commitment Laurent gave to public transport throughout his career.
Laurent was a passionate advocate of public transport and his industry expertise was focused on rail, with more than twenty years committed to advancing our sector.
Now, to continue his legacy, UITP is unveiling a Scholarship Programme in Laurent’s name, inviting the next generation of young, passionate leaders to become our 2021 scholars.
Laurent’s main focuses were within the rail sector and our training programmes with the UITP Academy, where he took great pleasure in sharing his expertise and being inspired by the next generation of public transport leaders.
We are pleased to now launch this new programme and encourage applicants to use this opportunity to develop their own careers.
From those who apply, five recipients will be selected to become this year’s scholars.
Those five will then be asked to complete four courses by the end of the year and will have the opportunity to take part in a graduation ceremony alongside their fellow students who have also completed the programme.
Laurent was a respected colleague to many across the public transport sector, and a friend to even more. His commitment to advancing sustainable transport and enthusiasm to share his vast knowledge was recognised by all of those who knew him. UITP believes that a legacy such as his deserves to be honoured by supporting the next generation of public transport leaders and passing on the knowledge he helped to build. I encourage all of those who meet the criteria to apply for what I know will be a rich and rewarding experience.
If you wish to learn from industry experts to help you make those next steps, then our new scholarship may be for you.
Here’s what else you need to know about the programme…
There will be three compulsory core courses and one elective course during the 2021 programme.
We’ll offer virtual classroom training sessions in the first edition, due to the current global restrictions on movement. Physical sessions will become part of the discussion down the line.
The programme’s content goes beyond rail and the core courses which can be selected will range from topics such as:
And the content for elective courses will range from:
The courses will take place with a wide variety of experts at the helm and more choices will come in the next stages of selection. UITP reserves the right to alter the available selections.
The scholarship is being offered to five people every year, beginning in 2021 with our inaugural programme.
It’s open to people under 40 years of age who are employees within the public transport sector.
Applicants can be from a UITP member company, or non-members.
In order to best assist the next generation of public transport colleagues, applicants must be from developing countries where the GDP per capita is under USD 10k (as per World Bank consideration).
It’s important to all of us at UITP, and those who knew and admired Laurent within the sector, to carry on his legacy and to help the next generation of public transport leaders as they make their own way…
We hope to receive a wide variety of inspiring and passionate applicants. Are you one of them?
