In just a couple of days, the UITP Global Public Transport Summit will explore the golden ticket to seamless passenger experience with numerous sessions on payment and ticketing. From morning expert talks (including great coffee!) about open loop payment to congress sessions on how to enhance customer experience through advanced payment: below we share with you our guide to all things ticketing and payment at the UITP Summit.
In July 2021, UITP was proud to launch the Urban Mobility Open Payments Forum to advance the adoption of open loop payment systems in public transport.
Joining around the table major industry players including Visa and American Express, the Forum seeks to stimulate dialogue on open loop payment in public transport, to facilitate its deployment, and create a clearer framework for implementation. Recently, UITP was proud to welcome Discover® Global Network, the global payments brand of Discover Financial Services, as new member.
Ask the Expert
On 5 and 6 June, join Forum members to ask them about all things open loop payment and hear about recent implementation projects. On Monday, head to the Switchio stand, where discussions with amongst others Mastercard will explore the successful implementation of open loop payment in Lisbon. On the Tuesday, Scheidt & Bachmann will welcome visitors to discuss with sector experts including Visa on chances and challenges of integrating open payment solutions in urban mobility systems.

Accessibility in open loop systems
While open loop payment systems are increasingly gaining in popularity, the topic of accessibility of these systems needs to stay high on the agenda. This workshop bring together experts from payment providers and public transport to discuss these concerns and explore potential solutions.

Advancing both ticketing and payment will provide a better public transport experience for all passengers. Building integrated solutions, and moving towards advanced based ticketing, are seen by many as key steps towards providing an integrated mobility offer.
From ABT to MaaS
On Wednesday 7 June, the session “from ABT to MaaS: Enabling an enhanced customer experience through advanced payment and ticketing” welcomes experts from RENFE, the Smart Ticketing Alliance (STA), City Group Co. and Visa to look at how the various actors are moving towards Mobility as a Service.

Nationwide Integrated Ticketing Schemes in Europe
The Deutschland-Ticket lets passengers travel by all means of local public transport for €49 per month. And not only in Germany, also in other countries like Portugal and France various fare initiatives are making the lives of passengers easier. But what do these ticketing schemes mean from technology, transport economics and customer experience point of view? Join this panel session by the Smart Ticketing Alliance to explore the implications of nationwide ticketing for seamless travelling.
