As a member-led organisation, UITP is defined by those who call our association home. With more than 1900 members in over 100 countries, UITP takes great pride in showcasing to the world the achievements, successes, and developments of those working hard to ensure our cities, economies, and people keep moving.
When bringing together our global membership, we truly represent the entire public transport sector. Across 2023 our committees met in 18 countries around the globe. What’s more, UITP operates seven active training centres and 13 regional offices which help support members close to where they are. In 2024, our global operations will continue to grow under new leadership.
Starting this January 2024, UITP is proud to announce Jaspal Singh as the new Senior Director – Membership & Global Operations. Previously, Jaspal led the regional offices of both India and North America. Starting his UITP journey in 2013, Jaspal has spent over 16 years in the mobility and transport sector across multiple countries – making him the ideal person to advance public transport worldwide.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Jaspal Singh as our new Senior Director – Membership and Global Operations. Jaspal brings a wealth of experience to this role, having successfully completed a decade-long tenure with UITP. In his new capacity, Jaspal is poised to further expand UITP’s global presence and actively contribute to the UITP’s mission of supporting its members.”
Jaspal first engaged with UITP in 2008, by filling in a UITP membership form as the Deputy Manager at Delhi Multi-Modal Transit System Limited (DIMTS). There, Jaspal launched a public-private partnership for buses and the first gross cost system in India.
In 2013, Jaspal formally joined UITP as a Consultant at the India Regional Office. In two short years, he became the Head of UITP India. Later, he managed UITP IT committees, where he stayed until becoming the Head of UITP North America in 2022. At both offices, Jaspal helped grow UITP’s reach and impact. Jaspal:
“My roles as Head of Office on two different sides of the Earth have helped me to understand that UITP has a very important role to play to grow and support sustainable transport. In both positions, I came to understand that UITP needs to ‘Think Globally, Act Locally’ and identify the good practices from around the world which can be useful for members.”

Knowledge sharing. I believe it is very important to hear diverse views and perspectives.
Wherever I go, I always look for good vegetarian Indian restaurants. I try to help others find good food options by posting Google Reviews, which so far have 86 million views!
As a global association, managing UITP’s global operations is an opportunity to make a large impact. And where Jaspal goes, he makes an impact. In his new key role, this is sure to continue.
“As people, we have to use our impact to leave the world a better place. And mobility touches everyone. It is key to advancing income equality and empowerment in society. In short, what motivates me is the positive impact that mobility can have on everyone’s lives.”
