India is rapidly moving towards the path of decarbonisation of public transport. At COP 26, India set the ambitious goal of decarbonising energy to 50% and achieving 500 GW of fossil fuel-free generating capacity by 2030. India has also pledged to reach net-zero emissions by 2070 to fight against climate change. Along these lines, the Indian government is proactively advocating for sustainable mobility, and focusing on adoption of zero emission vehicles, or electric vehicles.
In the past decade, there has been a rise in the government led initiatives for faster adoption of electric buses in the country such as introduction of Nation Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 (NEMMP), the FAME India scheme, the Grand Challenge scheme, National Electric Bus Program (NEBP), and the recently launched PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism Scheme and PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, Bharat Urban Megabus Mission.
Several cities and state transport undertakings across India have leveraged these schemes and taken to replacing their diesel fleet by electric buses, and are at various stages of tendering, procurement, and implementation. However, transitioning from diesel or CNG buses to electric buses requires a system-wide transformation in planning, procurement, financing, contracting, operations, and maintenance of vehicles.
Keeping in mind the growing importance, new challenges, and a significant push for electric buses, the theme of the UITP India International Bus Seminar 2024 will be ‘Advancing Electric Buses in India’. The seminar willwitness representation from state transport undertakings, financing institutions, central government ministries involved in the Electric Bus landscape of India, and other industry players. It will encompass key national and international speakers sharing their knowledge and experiences on key important topics of Electric Buses such as Sustainable E-Bus Adoption, Sustainable Digitalisation for E-Buses, Enhancing electric bus efficiency through sustainable operations and planning, and Addressing range anxiety through adequate charging Infrastructure.
Attending the International Bus Seminar is a perfect opportunity to gain and share knowledge from various national and international players in the Electric Bus domain.
