The UITP-CoR policy conference tackles one of the most urgent challenges in Europe today: transport and mobility poverty. Millions across the EU – especially in rural, peri-urban, and economically disadvantaged areas – lack access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable transport, deepening social exclusion and limiting access to essential services like education, healthcare, and employment. This issue not only undermines social cohesion but also hinders the EU’s goals for decarbonisation and the green transition.
Amid rising energy costs, inflation, and post-pandemic recovery, this conference will explore solutions through key EU instruments such as the Social Climate Fund, Cohesion Policy, and the Recovery and Resilience Facility. It provides a vital platform for EU policymakers, public transport operators, urban planners, and civil society to address transport poverty, share innovative funding and policy approaches, and promote equitable and sustainable mobility systems.
Anchored in the European Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, the event aims to foster actionable commitments to ensure mobility is a right for all and transport systems contribute to a greener, fairer, and more inclusive Europe.
