In addition to the tram lines in operation since 2012 and others under construction, the BRT aims to offer an efficient, multimodal, and quality transport alternative.
The annual UITP Africa & MENA conference, taking place in Casablanca (Morocco) on 18 September 2023, will gather participants from the Middle East, North Africa (MENA) and sub-Saharan Africa regions to discuss and promote the deployment of Bus Rapid Transit systems and clean bus technologies. Morocco, which is implementing BRT projects in several cities, serves as an ideal host country to showcase practical examples/best practices of BRT implementations and operations in these both regions.
The conference will consist of three sessions, each focusing on a specific theme related to the institutional and technological aspects of the BRT and clean bus sector:
- Session 1 on Governance and Financing for a resilient bus transport system: this session offers an exploration of institutional tools and incentive policies to promote the adoption of BRT systems and sustainable technological solutions.
- Session 2: Combined Mobility: BRT Systems in Synergy with Other Mobility Services: This session will explore the concept of combined mobility, which involves integrating BRT systems with other modes of transportation to provide seamless and efficient journeys for passengers. Topics of discussion will include Integrated ticketing and fare systems, First- and last-mile connectivity, Multi-modal hubs, integrated planning, etc.
- Session 3: Sustainable Mobility: Electric Vehicles and Clean Bus Technologies: This session will focus on the importance of sustainable mobility solutions, particularly electric vehicles, and clean bus technologies, within the context of BRT implementation. Key topics for discussion will include Electrification of bus fleets, clean bus technologies and Maintenance and operations challenges.
By addressing these challenges and exploring the opportunities presented by BRT systems and clean bus technologies, the conference aims to foster sustainable mobility transitions in the MENA and sub-Saharan Africa regions, reducing emissions, improving urban mobility, and promoting economic development. Also, the event will be an opportunity for international suppliers to discover business development opportunities in MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa regions.
En plus des lignes de tramway en service depuis 2012 et d’autres en phase de travaux, le BHNS vise à offrir une alternative de transport multimodale et de qualité. La conférence annuelle de l’UITP MENA, qui se tiendra à Casablanca (Maroc) le 18 septembre 2023, réunira des acteurs du Transports Publics des régions du Moyen-Orient et d’Afrique du Nord (MENA) et d’Afrique Subsaharienne Spour échanger sur l’adoption de systèmes de transport rapide par bus et promouvoir les nouvelles technologies de bus urbains. Mettant en œuvre des projets de BHNS dans plusieurs villes, le Maroc un pays hôte idéal pour présenter des exemples pratiques de mise en œuvre de BHNS dans ces deux régions.

The UITP Africa and MENA Conference in Casablanca on BRT and Clean Buses marks a significant milestone for public transport professionals and policy makers.
