Individuals experiencing homelessness frequently depend on public transportation facilities or vehicles as temporary shelters from harsh weather conditions and for safety. This presents an increasing dilemma for public transport operators and authorities, often acting as first responders, and affecting both their staff and users. Operators and authorities are realising this is not a problem that they can ignore, and are actively seeking solutions to provide dignified support to homeless individuals while mitigating disruptions for employees and commuters.
Collaborative efforts with law enforcement, social services, mental health professionals, homeless advocates, and other stakeholders are instrumental in addressing this challenge in a constructive manner.
This webinar will share policies and strategies from several public transport authorities and operators, with the aim to better support vulnerable persons and ensure that their services remain safe and attractive for passengers and staff.
