The topic
The UITP Academy is organising a series of webinars in the framework of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. They aim to assist public transport companies and authorities and provide them with the latest information to encourage collaboration and innovation in transport to pursue sustainable mobility.

The necessity for additional cleaning and disinfecting to ensure the safety of their staff and travellers has been quickly addressed by the Public Transport sector.

From the start of the pandemic, UITP’s mission has been to support its members to share best practices and scientific knowledge to keep public transport safe.

The sector had to react to an emergency situation and has tested many different cleaning and disinfecting products and procedures. This has a big impact on operations and costs for Public Transport operators and authorities. As the pandemic will remain a priority for quite some time, it is important for the sector to review the current practices and to adapt them, with the help of experts, to maximise the safety of the public transport networks but also to keep the costs under control.

UITP has partnered with ISSA & its GBAC STAR Accreditation to provide recommendations for the Public Transport sector regarding cleaning, disinfecting and infection prevention practices to ensure service excellence and safety of their services. UITP members are able to receive a discount when accrediting their operations through the global GBAC STAR program. View the application here.

A survey has been conducted within UITP members to identify current practices. Based on the results of this survey, ISSA & GBAC have identified the “do’s & don’ts for cleaning and disinfection in public transport environment.

Those recommendations will be presented in this webinar and developed in a future report.

Objective

The aim of the webinar is to address the following questions:

  • How to adapt cleaning & disinfection to ensure the highest level of safety for staff and travelers?
