The planet is facing a climate crisis

You’ve heard this before. In the same way you’re aware thatwe need to act now.

The transport sector represents 40% of CO2 emissions in our cities. So we’re asking the world’s leaders and decision makers, what’s your plan?

UITP is calling onglobal policy makersandnational governmentsto recognise themajor role public transport playson bothlocal air pollutionandclimate change.

In2020, when national governments are expected to resubmit newclimate action plans, there should be no exception:public transport MUST appear on EVERY plan.

We only haveone planet, and we only needone planso what are you waiting for?

One four-step plan

In September 2019 as part of the #ONEPLANet campaign, UITP launched with its members a Climate Action Manifesto which detals a four-step action plan to reduce transport emissions in cities.

  • Step 1

Prioritise breathable and walkable streets through urban planning

  • Step 2

Strengthen public transport’s role as the backbone of all mobility services

  • Step 3

Guarantee financial incentives and a regulatory framework for an emission transition

  • Step 4

Ensure clean energy sources are accessible to further reduce carbon footprint

Decision makers need to take ambitious decisions to reduce individual car use in our communities and invest into cleaner and less-energy consuming solutions for their citizens.
